Challenge #2: Water with the Consorci d'Aigües Costa Brava Girona

The second BlockchainxODS challenge was carried out together with the Consorci d'Aigües Costa Brava - Girona, and with the collaboration of the Institut Català de Recerca de l'Aigua (ICRA).

The Consorci d'Aigües Costa Brava Girona is a local supramunicipal entity of institutional character. The main foundational objective of the Consortium was to respond to the then emerging problem of the management of water resources in the area known as Costa Brava and the preservation of the quality of the water, especially bathing water, given the growing importance of tourism as the main economic activity in this area.

The challenge proposed by the Consortium was as follows:

Implementation of blockchain technology in the operation of the pilot plant for the purification of reclaimed water intended for the recharge of water supply aquifers for reliability in the reading and processing of information.

The winning team was called BCDS, formed by students Martí Madrenys, Sergi Bergillos, and Marc Cosgaya. All participants had free admission to the BxCat event, organized by the CBCat, where the awards ceremony was held with the attendance of various authorities, including Marta Madrenas, mayor of Girona, Mònia Roca i Aparici, president of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and Dani Marco, director general of Innovation and Digital Economy of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Everyone who participated in the challenge received a certificate of participation and a gift from the CBCat. Each of the winners also received an Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality glasses.
